This original lithograph, ‘Femme à l'Oiseau’, by Corneille (1922–2010) was created in 1996 and depicts one of the characteristic motifs of the co-founder of the CoBrA movement. The depiction of a woman with a bird reflects the poetic, colourful visual language for which Corneille became internationally renowned. About Corneille
Corneille (1922–2010), whose real name was Guillaume Cornelis van Beverloo, was a co-founder of the international CoBrA movement and is regarded as one of the most significant artists of post-war European modernism. Together with artists such as Karel Appel, Constant and Asger Jorn, he developed an expressive visual language characterised by bold colours, spontaneous forms and poetic symbolism. Women, birds, cats and landscapes are among the recurring motifs in his work. Original lithographs signed by the artist, such as this artist’s proof, are particularly sought after by collectors of modern art.
