This lithograph, ‘Le Divan Japonais’, after Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec (1864–1901), depicts one of the most famous poster motifs of the French Belle Époque. The original was created in 1893 for the Parisian cabaret ‘Le Divan Japonais’ and is now regarded as an iKON of Post-Impressionism and poster art. This lithograph was produced in the 1980s based on the original and is signed on the plate. About Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec
Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec (1864–1901) is regarded as one of the most important artists of French Post-Impressionism. He became famous for his striking depictions of Parisian nightlife, the cabarets and theatres of Montmartre. His posters, including ‘Le Divan Japonais’, are regarded as milestones in modern graphic art and had a lasting influence on the development of advertising art. Prints based on his most famous motifs remain hugely popular to this day, combining art-historical significance with timeless aesthetics.
