Styles & Designs
| Style | Material | Character & Style | Special features |
|---|---|---|---|
| Belt Bag, Grained Calfskin | Grained calfskin | A classic and particularly popular design with a subtle leather texture. | Structured shape, grained surface, belt-style front details and subtle embossed logo. |
| Belt Bag Smooth Calfskin | Smooth calfskin | A minimalist, elegant look with an exceptionally smooth surface. | Fine leather surface without pronounced grain. Scratches and signs of wear may be more clearly visible. |
| Belt Bag Drummed Leather | Drum-tanned, grained leather | A softer leather feel with a distinctive texture. | A material designation commonly used in the second-hand market. Depending on the item, it may correspond to ‘Grained Calfskin’ and should not automatically be treated as a separate model variant. |

| Belt Bag Suede | Suede or leather combinations | A soft, luxurious look with a velvety finish. | Distinctive leather texture and a more delicate surface. The exact finish varies by model. |
| Belt Bag Classic Colours | Predominantly grained or smooth calfskin | A timeless look in understated colours. | Particularly well-known in black, taupe, grey, beige and other neutral shades. |
| Belt Bag Seasonal Colours | Calfskin and materials specific to each collection | A fashionable take on the classic belt bag. | Seasonal colours, distinctive finishes and, in some cases, different Hardware designs. |
| Vintage Céline Belt Bag | Calfskin, often grained | Classic designs from the Phoebe Philo era. | Older models often feature the Céline logo with an accent. Later models use the spelling Celine. |
Special notes
- Historical origins: The Céline Belt Bag was launched in 2014 under Creative Director Phoebe Philo and went on to become one of the brand’s most iconic minimalist bag designs.
- Naming: The name ‘Belt Bag’ refers to the belt-like leather details on the front. Despite its name, it is not a classic belt bag, but a handbag with a top handle.
- Characteristic design: Typical features include the trapezium-shaped silhouette, the single leather handle, the large front flap and the leather ends protruding from the sides, which resemble a belt.
- Fastening: The classic Belt Bag features a front flap with a concealed metal fastening, as well as an additional zip under the flap.
- Sizes: The Belt Bag was available in Pico, Nano, Micro and Mini sizes. The order from smallest to largest is Pico, Nano, Micro and Mini. The Mini is therefore the largest of these versions.
- Grained calfskin: Models made from grained calfskin are particularly common. The textured leather surface is often more resistant to visible scratches in everyday use than smooth leather.
- Carrying options: The Belt Bag features a top leather handle. Many versions also have a detachable shoulder strap, offering different carrying options depending on the size.
- Interior layout: In many designs, the interior is largely open-plan and offers additional pockets depending on the size. The features may vary between model generations.
- External pocket: Many belt bags have a zipped pocket on the back for smaller items.
- Hardware: Depending on the model, gold-coloured or silver-coloured metal fittings are used. The fastening is largely concealed when the front flap is closed.
- Céline vs. Celine: As part of the 2018 rebranding, the accent mark above the first ‘E’ in the brand name was removed. Older bags may therefore bear the embossed spelling ‘Céline’, whilst newer models feature ‘Celine’. Both spellings are authentic brand variants.
- Shape retention: The Belt Bag is characterised by its structured silhouette. When inspecting pre-owned items, particular attention should be paid to the shape of the sides, the bag’s stability and any signs of deformation.
- Preloved models: When inspecting preloved Belt Bags, particular attention should be paid to the corners, the leather surface, the handle, the shoulder strap, the front flap, the zip, the lining and the belt-like leather details.
- Authentication: Workmanship, leather quality, logo embossing, fastenings and production codes can provide important clues as to authenticity. However, individual features alone are not a reliable proof of authenticity.
- Model variations: Dimensions, interior layout, leather texture and Hardware may vary depending on size, year of production and collection.
